U.N.I.T.Y. (Uplifting, Nurturing, Inspiring, Teaching, Youth) Columbus is a program designed specifically for MSM (men who have sex with men) POC (people of color) between the ages of 18 and 25 years old. Breaking this down: UNITY is a program for gay/bi/queer men of color.
Why? Because gay/bi/queer men of color
- Have a very high risk of contracting HIV.
- Are living with HIV at disproportionately high rates.
- Are at risk for many other preventable conditions as well.
U.N.I.T.Y. Columbus addresses these health disparities by using a holistic approach. We focus on building the morale, esteem, and self-worth of individuals in this demographic by providing educational and social programming on a consistent basis.
Programming focuses on topics that empower individuals to lead healthy and productive lives and promote sound and healthy decision making.
Educational topics include:
- Financial Wellness
- Nutritional Wellness
- Mental Health Wellness
- Job searching, resume writing, and interview etiquette
- Relationship management: domestic and intimate
- Sexual Health
- Harm and Risk Reduction
- Business Creativity
- Communication Skills
- Conflict Resolution
Weekly, we provide a social gathering combined with fun and engaging programming on these topics and more. Participants enjoy networking and become ongoing supports to one another outside of the group setting. This community building emphasis keeps program attendance high and supports retention of information.
